Nationality Immigration & Asylum Act 2002

British Overseas Citizens, British Subjects and British Protected Persons now have the right to register as full British Citizens from 30 April 2003.

From 30 April 2003, section 12 of the Nationality, Immigration and Asylum Act 2002 came into force. This section enables British Overseas Citizens, British Subjects and British Protected Persons without any other nationality to apply for full British citizenship.

They must not have given up any other citizenship after 4 July 2002.

Please note that if the application is successful, the applicant will be treated as obtaining British Citizenship by descent. This means that their children born outside the UK will not acquire British citizenship.

Application forms are now available from the following link to the Home Office website: Application form B(OS)
www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk/file.asp?fileid=752

Before submitting the application, it is very important to read the attached Home Office guide for the documentary evidence required, how to fill in the form and where to submit the application: Guide B(OS)

Please get in touch with JCWI if you are experiencing any difficulties in registering as a British Citizen.
