Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants (JCWI) is an independent national charity which exists to campaign for justice in immigration, nationality and refugee law and policy.

JCWI Launch Financial Appeal
For the first time in 14 years JCWI is obliged to launch a financial appeal for £60,000, in order to keep the work of the organisation going. We do not seek government funding and therefore have not sustained budget cuts like many other organisations, but the greater competition for funds from grant giving bodies has had a severe effect on the income of JCWI. We ask for your help in securing the long term future of the organisation. Please download the leaflet for more info and a donation form.
NEW PUBLICATION A Guide to the Points Based System
Orders are coming in thick and fast for the new JCWI book - A Guide to the Points Based System. With around 500 pages, it is packed with the information practitioners - lawyers and advisers - need to get the most out of the PBS. The Ministry of justice bought 600 Guides for distribution to Immigration Judges across the country.
The book is priced at £45.00, members of JCWI may claim a 10% discount.

Introducing the JCWI Blog
Here, on the main JCWI website, we hold all the important information, documents and details of our publications and training, but we also have a blog site which you may want to visit. There we have short articles about the relevant themes of the day, case notes from various legal cases regarding immigration, summaries of some of the documents we produce and articles from others in the field.
We have ceased to produce the quarterly printed bulletin of JCWI. In our view it quickly became dated, and was no rival for the blog which gets many more articles, updated almost daily and is in a format where you can easily send links to friends and colleagues who may be interested in the content.
Have a look, we're certain you'll find it valuable!

JCWI in the Media
National charity JCWI asks Labour leadership candidates not to sing to Migrant Watch's tune in the New Statesman. We also argue that the new English language requirement for marriage visas may be discriminatory. And in the Guardian we argue that tackling global poverty requires an ethical immigration policy.
Marriage language tests
JCWI has been vocal in opposing the Government's proposals to introduce an English language requirement for marriage visas. The charity argues a requirement already exists for spouses to learn English within two years and the new rules may discriminate against women, those from south Asia and the poorest wishing to come to live with their loved ones in the UK. We have appeared on the Politics Show - Hina Majid is interviewed at the end of the programme - and press and television in the UK and the United States.
