Draft Illustrative Immigration Rules on Protection

UKBA's proposed rules concerning protection as a refugee or provision of humanitarian protection

Immigration Visa StampAs part of UKBA's Simplification Project to reform immigration law, UKBA recently released the Draft Illustrative Immigration Rules on Protection. The rules apply to those seeking protection from the UK as a refugee or for humanitarian protection. These rules are UKBA's interpretation of the Council of Europe's Council Directive 2004/83/EC and The Refugee Convention (1951). JCWI has responded to these rules, highlighting our concerns regarding where the rules fall short of the UK's international human rights obligations.
