With changes in the recent immigration law and policy, the restrictions on in-country rights of appeals and ever changing government policies, we at JCWI recognise the need to provide skills based practical legal training to those providing legal advice to migrants and their families.
JCWI in conjunction with Helen Alexander of 9 Kings Bench Walk is now offering a bespoke legal skills-set training course, specifically to meet the needs of the OISC firms.
Our aim is to provide practical legal skills training through workshops, aimed at OISC caseworkers, to enhance, update and consolidate their practical legal skills of case working when dealing with private immigration clients case work, through group workshops geared to build confidence by for Level 1 and 2 caseworkers to improve legal knowledge, skills and client management.
The workshops will deal with skills level, the understanding of the relevant law and moreover, understanding key changes in the law at the time of the workshop which directly or indirectly affects case working, to improve evidence gathering for effective case work.
The workshops are intended to put the caseworker at ease, improve their skill level by engaging in practical analysis of the relevant issue by adopting a problem-solving approach whilst heeding to the code of conduct and ethical guidance in line with the OISC regulations.

Bundle Prep- How to Prepare Bundles in line with Practice Directions; including gathering and presenting evidence e.g. witness statement and oral evidence, use of case-law/home office policies and citing authorities ‘essential reading’ and use of chronology and bundle index and tribunal rules on lodging evidence and bundle.
