This two-day course intends to provide a foundation to immigration law and is in line with the OISC Code of Standards and Guidance of Competence at Level 1. Attending this course will not in itself lead to the OISC granting exemption or registration which is dependent on passing OISC audits and procedures.

Course content

• an introduction to the structure of UK immigration control – who is subject to control; Home Office and entry clearance application procedures

• sources of immigration law – the legislation; immigration rules; concessions and policies; and European law

• the main categories of entry and stay under the immigration rules

• acquiring nationality through naturalisation and registration

• visiting & studying in the UK

• family applications for settlement

• an overview of the various schemes governing working in the UK

• EEA rights of movement and residence, including the Workers Registration Scheme

• an introduction to the European Convention on Human Rights and Refugee Protection.
