Course content
With most of the Borders Act in force, this course is an absolute must for anyone undertaking Immigration & Asylum work.
This course will:
- provide you with a clear overview and understanding of the Act
- alert you to the provisions and any codes of practice already in force, together with those that are due to come into effect
- flag up potential legal challenges for you
- provide you with a clear, up to date and detailed set of notes on the Act itself
Specifically the course will cover:
- the controversial 'automatic deportation scheme'
- new powers of detention at ports
- biometric immigration documents for foreign nationals, including the pilot scheme
- the treatment of claimants (inc asylum support and conditions of leave)
- new enforcement powers
- information sharing by government agencies
- the Border and Immigration Agency Inspectorate
Objectives
At the conclusion of the course participants will have a thorough understanding of the UK Borders Act 2007 and its implications for practice. The amendments to existing immigration law will be explained and the new measures provided for will be examined.
The course is intended to assist solicitors, OISC Levels 1-3 advisers, advice workers and caseworkers by providing knowledge to apply in their immigration casework. As the UK Borders Act 2007 is a new development, practitioners from all levels will benefit from attending the course and it has been designed accordingly.
