The purpose of this course is to look at key areas
of the inter-relationship between criminal law and immigration law.
Course content
The course content is designed to help practitioners from both areas
understand the issues that emerge form both criminal law and immigration
law perspectives.
The course will look at:
- the new restricted immigration status under the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008
- deportation including the new automatic scheme for deportation under the UK Borders Act 2007
- immigration control and criminal offences
- powers of stop, search and entry of immigration officers
- particular issues in relation to criminal procedure of the persons subject to immigration control charged with criminal offences
- recent legal developments (e.g. case law) in this area
Objectives
At the end of the course participants will:
- have a practical understanding of the relationship between the two areas of the law and the current legal developments in this field
