The course will provide those who have little or no knowledge of immigration law with an introduction to the various methods of coming to and staying in the UK to work. It will also provide an overview of the different categories in the immigration rules.

Course content

This course will cover:

  • an introduction to the work permit system
  • the various "permit-free" categories of work including
    ministers of religion, investors, retired persons
  • an overview of the Working Holiday Maker Scheme & Sector Based Scheme
  • the Highly Skilled Migrant Programme
  • those who can "switch" including students
  • overview of the government's proposed new 4 tier system

Course content

The course will specifically provide you with:

  • a break down of each of the categories that fall into each of the tiers under the PBS
  • the timetable for the introduction of each of the tiers together with an explanation of what is in force
  • a broad overview of the conditions, entitlements and checks that will attach to each of the tiers
  • appeal rights
  • an explanation of the system of sponsorship, the general duties on sponsors, the circumstances in which certificates are offered
  • penalties for illegal working
  • the right of dependants to join those working in the UK
