JCWI is governed by a board of trustees, known as our 'Executive Committee' or 'EC'. The role of trustees is to make sure that JCWI carries out the purposes for which it was set up, and is complying with all the relevant laws and regulations.

Trustees are essential to ensure that JCWI develop and deliver its vision of making Britain welcoming and safe for people who move.

Who are we looking for?

JCWI is committed to hear, represent, and be accountable to people who move. This is why we particularly welcome applications by individuals with recent lived experience, direct or indirect (e.g. family members) of the immigration/asylum system; detention; deportation; and/or destitution as a result of borders and immigration laws.

In addition, we are particularly seeking expertise and skills in the following areas:

  • Financial strategy and accounting (ideally a qualified accountant)
  • Strategic communications and media
  • Community organisation/union organiser with precarious/migrant workers
  • Management of legal teams

Lastly, we welcome applications by individuals living outside of London.

What will you be doing?

The EC meets at least once every three months to review JCWI's activities, finances and plans and long-term strategy.

The role of trustee is voluntary, but we can refund expenses, like travel expenses.

You can find out more about being a trustee through the Charity Commission's Essential Trustee guidance, or read Charity Trustees Explained by Bates Wells.
