Get involved The People Move challenge People Move challenge - Frequently Asked Questions Download these FAQs General What is the People Move challenge? The People Move challenge is a way to take action in support of migrants in the UK. We are inviting you to walk, run, cycle, roll or take on your own ‘movement’ challenge, between 18 and 26 September 2021, to raise money for our work fighting for migrants’ rights. You choose your challenge to suit you, but here are some suggestions: Walking, running, cycling, rolling or your own choice… 5km, 10km, 20km, 50km or your own choice… You can choose a challenge that you complete all in one go, or go for one that’s spread across the eight days of the challenge, 18 to 26 September 2021. Once you have set your challenge, spread the word with your family, friends, colleagues and networks and ask them to sponsor you! Let them know what you’re doing, why, and how they can support you! Once I’ve chosen my challenge, can I change my mind? Yes! When you sign up we will ask what you’re planning to do. You’ll then be sent instructions on how to set up a JustGiving fundraising page, where you can tell the world about your challenge! If you change your mind about your challenge, you can update your JustGiving page at any time. Instructions are here. You can also let us know by emailing [email protected]. It’s useful for us to know how many people are taking part and what they’re doing, so we can get excited and support you! Where does the challenge take place? This is a virtual / remote challenge – so you set your own challenge and complete it wherever suits you. How much does it cost to register? It’s free to sign up to take part in the People Move challenge. We just ask you to fundraise to help raise money to support people battling against the UK’s hostile immigration system. We will also email you information about our People Move t-shirts and running/cycling bibs, which are available to buy if you wish, from mid August. How do I get a running top? We are selling People Move t-shirts and running/cycling bibs in our online shop now. Sign up to the People Move challenge to get 50% off! Fundraising Is there a minimum fundraising amount, or a sponsorship target? No, there is no minimum fundraising target. You are free to set your target however you like. You are also welcome to join the People Move challenge in solidarity with people experiencing the immigration system without fundraising, if that works better for you. For everyone fundraising, remember that every penny you raise supports our work fighting for the rights of migrants, and for a more equal society. Where does my money go? We are a small charity but we punch above our weight. We're proud to say we've never taken any government funding, so we're truly independent. Every penny we receive from our amazing supporters helps us protect the rights of the individuals and families targeted by the Hostile Environment, to strengthen our communities and to fight for a fairer system for everyone. This work has never been more important. Here are some of the ways your money can help: Your donation could help us pay for one of our clients’ public transport to an appointment with the Home Office or an appeal hearing. Money you raise help cover the costs of running our helpline for undocumented migrants. Staffed by our legal team, this is a free, confidential phoneline for people who may have lived in the UK undocumented for years or decades, but been too afraid to come forward for help because of the hostile environment. Your sponsorship could help pay for a training session for grassroots activists on how to fight for change in Parliament. We’re proud to help community groups build relationships with decision makers and make change. The Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants is a charity registered in England and Wales, no 1117513. Do I need a JustGiving account?
