The Windrush Justice Fund At JCWI, we’re proud of the work we do to help people get documented, stay documented and fight to protect the rights and dignity of all migrants. But we know that we’re just one part of a vast movement of organisations, individuals and groups, big and small, whose work often goes unrecognised and who often don’t have the resources and support they need to sustain the work they do. Lawyers who step up and provide free advice surgeries because they recognise the barriers people face when trying to access justice. Organisers and campaigners who strengthen their communities’ voices and ensure that conversations about policy include those with lived experience from the outset. We’re proud to work alongside these individuals and groups and we want to make sure we’re doing our best to provide support where it’s needed. We're excited to launch the Windrush Justice Fund, in partnership with the Mayor of London, providing small grants and support to community groups and projects working with those affected by the Windrush Scandal. Like most of the public, we were outraged over treatment of the Windrush Generation and we worked hard with our partners and with the media to help bring these injustices to light. But we were also moved by the public’s response to the Windrush Scandal and the generosity shown by ordinary people who dug deep and donated whatever they could, to help people get the justice they need and to help ensure that something like this never happens again. Nearly £20,000 was raised in the summer of 2018 to support the Windrush Generation and we’re making sure that every penny of that money goes to grassroots groups and projects doing challenging work within communities to provide advice, support and continue the fight for justice. It's vital that this support reaches those who need it, wherever they are. And we’re grateful to the Mayor of London who generously matched the entire fund, providing up to £20,000 of funding reserved for organisations and projects within London. We are delighted to have been able to provide funding to incredible organisations across the UK.
